From the prologue
"What are you doing here, Mr. Byrnes?" McGuire asked. "No greeting? No 'nice to see you' or anything? Just 'What are you doing here, Mr. Byrnes?'" Sean snarled. McGuire watched as Byrnes slowly pulled off his gloves, one finger at a time, and opened his coat. Then, without warning, Byrnes pushed the psychiatrist back into his office and kicked the door shut. "Sit down over there, Doc," he said, pointing to the chair on the far side of the room. Byrnes helped himself to the doctor's plush leather chair. He dug the heels of his hiking boots into the carpet and rolled the chair over to block the doorway. He swiveled around once, and then glared at Dr. McGuire. "What do you want?" the psychiatrist asked, realizing he couldn't leave the room without going through the inmate. "I got released last week, no thanks to you." Byrnes' pale, ice blue eyes narrowed. "Now you shut the hell up and answer my questions." |
